


This led to letters getting made longer or wider when they were made big to be used on poster’s etc. William Caslon’s great grandson (William Caslon IV) decided he didn’t like the serif’s and therefore got rid of them and created a new type of typeface known as ‘Sans Serif.’ At first people didn’t agree with him but after a while this kind of typeface got really popular.ĭuring the second industrial revolution, advertising meant there was a need for new font’s.


It is the ability to arrange type and letters to make them clear and readable whilst also being aesthetically pleasing.
